Situated along the banks of the River Bure, in the
heart of Broadland, the village of Horning is some 10 miles from
Norwich, 17 miles from Great Yarmouth and 3 miles from Wroxham, the ‘capital’
of the Norfolk Broads.
The picturesque village, whose origin dates back to
Roman times, consists of a mixture of shops, boat yards and thatched
cottages. Along the banks of the river are several luxurious riverside
properties.
There is an attractive river green and a quay where
you can moor free for 24 hours. In and around Horning there are several
interesting shops, pubs, hotels and places to eat and one can while away
the time watching the activity on the busy river.
Nearby are the Broads of Ranworth, with its wildlife center,
Salhouse and Wroxham and the ruins of St. Benet’s Abbey founded in the
9th. Century. In 1536 it was the only abbey not destroyed by Henry VIII.
Although now in ruins it is still an imposing sight. On the opposite
