Aylsham, in the UK
is a thriving historic market town in the centre of Norfolk whose traders offer a wide variety of
goods and friendly, personal service. It is only a few miles from the
beautiful North Norfolk coast and the east coast towns of Cromer, Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft and the
beautiful city of Norwich. It is the centre of a rural
community of farms that are scattered around and beautiful little
villages set into a green, rolling countryside. Aylsham is also
well known for its auctions hosted by Keys. The town itself
predates the Norman Conquest and its recorded name in the Domesday Book
was Elesham. The linen and worstead industries accounted for much of the
town's prosperity. The Parish Church of St. Michael and All Angels is
the town's oldest and most impressive building.
There are many beautiful stately houses in the
area, the most famous of which, Blickling Hall, is only one and half miles from the town. It is reputed to be
the birthplace of Anne Boleyn, second wife of Henry V111. There
are several other historic houses and estates nearby and the North
Norfolk coast is only a short drive away.
The site offers a Complete Guide to the town and surrounding area.
